SKETCHES | TEXT

My sketches and writing have been my approach to processing my family’s archive and memories. It is how I attempt to make sense of the photographic object, the moment captured and my response to that moment. This practice has been a space where past, present and future exist simultaneously. The past of the memory, the present of my intervention and the future of what could come from this excavation.

It has been interesting to see how my connection to some photographs has changed from the last time I looked at them. The object itself has not changed, but I have, my experiences have affected the way in which I make sense of the image; the connection and moment it represents.

The more I work with my family archive through this process of writing and sketching, the more I remember but also forget. Markers start to emerge from each memory, an object or a feeling that stands at the forefront.
